Gary Gresham

An amputee since he was a toddler when a house fire left his legs severely burned, Gary Gresham grew up with prosthetic legs. Over the years, he dealt with several different prosthetic providers, but a move to Nashville in 2009 sent Gresham to the computer to research the area’s resources.

Once he found Bulow BioTech’s website, Gresham said it was the mission statement, along with Matt Bulow’s profile, that set the company apart. “I felt very welcomed,” he explained. “This was a place I would want to treat me. It was very inviting.”

The name Bulow BioTech also stood out to Gresham, particularly the emphasis on technology. “New technology,” mused Gresham. “Can it be used with me to make my legs better? Be a step above what I had?” With that as motivation, Gresham made the call and said he was hooked by the encouragement, understanding, knowledge and courtesy.

Bulow BioTech worked in tandem with Gresham, presenting new ideas and concepts. Overall, he was looking for more stability in his limbs. “Whatever technology they could bring to the table to make me feel more safe and have more stability as far as balance,” Gresham explained. “They had the technical means of getting me to what I needed.”

For Gresham, Suction Sockets now keep the artificial limbs attached to his Flex Feet. “This is new technology for me,” he said. “It opened up a whole different arena for me. I was using Velcro to wrap around and hold and keep the residual leg in the prosthesis, and not getting the most comfortable fit.”

Due to Gresham’s age and scar tissue left from his burns, it was challenging to find a comfortable fit. Trial and error relieved pressure points and friction. “I went back and back and back and back,” he said. “I think seven times to get the best fit.”

Now Gresham can feel the difference every day. “When I get on a bus or step down, I don’t feel insecure like I used to,” he said. “I don’t feel like it’s going to get hung up. My leg is not going to come off because of the suction.”

He now feels the prostheses are part of his body; they move when he moves. “I step with ease, a sense of assuredness,” Gresham said. “I’m so grateful that we live in a great country where people like me can live a normal life like anyone else. I have never felt so whole in my entire 50 years of living.”

Gresham attributes his new level of comfort to Bulow BioTech. “I am very happy with what happened-with my prostheses and that I went to them. I would recommend them to anyone in need of prosthetic care. They went a step above what I had been used to,” he said.
